And if he doesn't care, why should we? Most of the rest of the cast are equally bland. The action is stunning and the animations are good, but with bad editing, it looks messy. If Altered Carbon: Resleeved was longer, it wouldve had more time to develop everything. Theres little character development and the plot was rushed.
Dina Shihabi as Dig 301 - An archeologue AI who volunteers to help Poe. Altered Carbon: Resleeved is a good action movie, but the plot and characters are poorly handled. Lela Loren as Danica Harlan - The current leader of Harlans World. Last years Tim Burton-directed Dark Shadows movie, starring Johnny Depp. Joel Kinnaman is stony as Takeshi, not letting us empathise with a protagonist who doesn't seem to care about anything. Will Yun Lee as Takeshi Kovacs Prime - The original body of Takeshi Kovacs. Morgan, Altered Carbon mixes a few great, new ideas with a lot of derivative. It doesn't help that none of the characters are interesting. I know this is only the first episode but first impressions are important. This is a show that cares more about generic sci-fi pulp than exploring the interesting issues at its heart. But these issues are only touched on in between the murder mystery, strip club scenes and Tak's drug-fuelled wander.

There's a lot of issues that are touched on- an exploited underclass, the neo-Catholic protests that life is sacred and shouldn't be played around with, what it feels like to be put into a different skin to that which you were born in and what it's like to be reborn multiple times. Far from drawing me in, I found most of it didn't have much of an impact on me at all.
But other than that, this pilot episode is a mighty disappointment. The fight scenes are well shot too and fun to watch with jazz music playing in the background. The cityscape is overflowing with bright lights and neon signs.
The cyberpunk cities have a gritty, dirty beauty to them.

Speeding to a conclusion now.There's no doubt that Altered Carbon is one of the most expensive TV shows ever made, with visuals that could easily have come out of big-budget Hollywood productions. A dark abuse of life and death that demonstrates the decadence of the Meths. This time, sex workers who are part of a disturbing, extreme entertainment experience of which their deaths are the climax, are assumed to be re-sleeved in exchange for being willing to be killed for the pleasure of the extremely wealthy. And, after the first few episodes, the DHC/re-skin concept didn't seem to be explored again until recent stories, which is welcome. Poe is consistently one of my favorites, the old-tech AI with more humanity than the humans. Lizzie is becoming more and more interesting as Poe helps her heal from the psychological torture she endured. He's forming attachments, which feels better than lashing out at everyone to keep them at arm's distance. Supporting characters have become more and more central as Kovacs has slowly let them in, despite the tendency for Envoys to gather a small, expendable pack of locals to further their purposes. As is true with the best of Altered Carbon, the visuals, acting, and writing are all solid in this episode. In this episode, we finally learn the details of what Rei has been up to, and see Kovacs begin to stand up to her. One wonders why he doesn't fight back, especially now that she's demonstrated how far she's willing to go to manipulate him into her idea of what their ideal future is. Kovacs is coming up against the murderously twisted love and loyalty of his sister to disastrous effect.

The series has promised big budget, high concept sci-fi thrills and, in this episode, it delivers. So much payoff, some welcome character warmth, and a strong foray into more details of the world of the Aerium makes this one of the strongest Altered Carbon episodes since the first three.
